Laser printers FAQs
Q: What’s toner?
A: Toner is the powder that eventually becomes the words and images
on a laser printed sheet of paper. Laser printers do not use ink, but
fuse the powder with paper by heating it.
Q: Why choose a laser printer over an inkjet?
A: Laser printers usually produce more precise/better quality images.
They are also able to process information faster than inkjet and print
entire pages at a time (inkjets take longer to print text and pictures
at one time). Toner is generally more expensive but will last longer
that ink cartridges.
Q: Are there health risks involved with laser printing?
A: Laser printer toner is reported to cause some health risks in certain
cases. Due to the small size of the particles, they can settle in the
air in a printer-heavy environment much like dust. Breathing the particles
can have adverse effects on people with asthma or bronchitis.
